SAL update.

It’s time for the April SAL update.!!!

I haven’t had much time to stitch as things have been busy with work and at home. But I did make progress on this piece.

I have finally made it to adding in some colours that aren’t so muted. It’s hard to believe that there are so many light colours that can make up white when it comes to these types of charts.

It’s never just a simple block of colour with this chart, it is mostly confetti stitching but I’m loving the end result as it’s coming together.

Here is where I am as of last night. (I may have taken a break at work to throw in a few more stitches). Shhhh…. don’t tell anyone😝

I’m on page 3 of 18.!!!! Happy dance!!!! Sadly page 6 which is the last page for the top row is mostly confetti stitching of the background browns.

My hope is that I will be still be as excited to get to the next row that I can just push myself through the annoying page because I know the next row of pages is where the picture is really going to start to come together.
I take a picture each time I finish stitching for the day so I will include a few of those below.

The official finish of page 2.

How do you guys track your progress?

Or do you not track it at all?

I’ve  heard of people using journals to track time, stitches, thread use. I personally prefer to just take a picture each time I finish.

What’s your thoughts on tracking your progress? Do you think this removes some of the creative aspect because you may worry more about the progress?
There are fantastic people in this SAL who everyone should go check out what they are currently working on right now.

I’m going to sneak around and check out their updates. Happy stitching everyone!!!

To be honest, I use the SAL to track my progress, with a before and after shot. It’s quite good for keeping me up to the mark, I’m too embarrassed to show just a few stitches. And I don’t often work from a pattern, so I can’t celebrate the end of pages. To log the stitches and time spent seems like a lot of trouble to me, I like to just pick the piece up, stitch away for a bit, and then put it down till the next time. Works for me.

You are making great progress. I actually take a picture before I start stitching each day. Then I post on my blog and also I keep track of how many stitches I do a day.

  3. I’ve tried a number of ways of recording how long I’ve been working on projects, and yes it did take me a while to get over the ‘must work faster because I’m recording this’ mindset. Still working out the details 🙂
It was a bit surreal watching the cross stitching coming ‘undone’ in the pictures, but I think I like the effect 🙂

, Looks great, I love this type of cross-stitch but I don’t think my eyes are up to it now!! I just tend to photograph projects when I want to post about them.

how brave you are to be stitching a design with so much detail ^^
Totally mad, also, but I’ll be following progress with interest.
I tend to take photos to remind myself of progress to, which is why the SAL is such a good idea.

Is that a stitching term? “Confetti stitching” If not, it’s a fantastic description for these kind of patterns 🙂 I have a Scarlet Quince pattern that I’ll be working on after my Winnie the Pooh project and there’s lots of color changes and color blends…Looks just like confetti!!

So far, I’ve only taken one photo at the end of the three weeks to track my stitching progress. Being part of the SAL will definitely keep you on track and help you achieve your stitching goals. That’s definitely what I’ve noticed for myself 🙂 Great progress so far!

  10. It’s looking good. I take a photo every three weeks for the SAL and that’s it. Just do whatever motivates you. If you feel the need to count stitches or reach a certain point in a page, that’s fine.

Welcome to the SAL. That’s a lovely big project you’ve got there. I’m looking forward to seeing it progress.
I tend to track my progress the same way as the others have said – I just take a photo for the SAL and compare it to the previous one. The SAL is a huge motivator in that respect 🙂

  12. Hi Timothy, I am Mary Margaret the other newbie to the group! I love your project! Beautiful work. I take a photo of mine every week and post it on Instagram and my personal Facebook Page plus my professional Facebook page. I try to get as much done as I can each week otherwise there wouldn’t be much to show. Can’t wait to see your progress in 3 weeks 🙂

Welcome to the SAL! This is a great project, and I gave up on a cross stitch years ago because of all the bitty constantly changing thread, so well done!
I don’t tend to track progress, unless I need to for commercial reasons. I find it takes away from the enjoyment. Some people I know can tell you how many hours went into each project, but honestly, with large projects, I’d rather not know!

  14. Hi Timothy and welcome to the group. Tracking? ummm I think it would then become a task instead of a relaxing hobby for me. I take a picture when I have finished each thing in my rota, which is usually about a weeks worth of stitching, however if I am enjoying a piece it may last for two or three weeks. If I am not enjoying it may only last a couple of days. I have tried the “set time”, thing and come to the conclusion once again that its a hobby and enjoyment is what matters most.
I have one head piece in my rota and that is very slow progress – yes all those confetti stitches lol.
